Pocket PC 2002 How-to
Configure Dial-up ISP Connection
Note: This page was directly copied over from my old site, so there are some formatting issues. If it wasn’t so out of date I would probably clean it up a bit.
This How-to is based on the following configuration:
- Pocket PC device is connected to a mobile phone with a data cable.
I have noted places where the settings may be different for a landline modem
connection, however I have not set up such a configuration myself so you may
need to experiment if your configuration varies.
Motivation: On my Pocket PC
I also have a Compact Flash 802.11b network card. I can sync and surf the net at
work and at home with the WLAN. When I am traveling however I do not have that
luxury. So I have set up my Pocket PC to connect to my ISP through my Nextel
phone whenever the WLAN is not available.
If you want to set up ActiveSync to work over this connection then you will
want to read my How-to ActiveSync through dial-up Internet Connection.
Step 1.Pick "Settings" from the Start Menu.
Select the "Connections" tab.
Tap on the "Connections" icon.
Step 2.
For my circumstances I have set the top and middle selections to "Internet
Settings" and the bottom one to "Work." This allows my to connect to a
WLAN when available and if one is not available my Pocket PC knows that it needs
to dial-up to get online.
Your selections on this screen may vary from what I have. In fact the
description for the connection doesn’t even matter, it is the configuration of
the connection that does.
